Texas Motor Speedway hasn’t historically been known as a chaos track, but the last few Cup Series races here have had plenty of action. A wide racing surface, high grip levels, and two distinct ends created by the 2017 repave and reconfiguration give drivers a lot to manage — and Sunday’s Würth 400 figures to be no different.
With tire falloff less of a concern here than at other intermediates, track position takes on added importance. The NASCAR qualifying results also serve as one of the cleaner indicators of which teams have the right setup heading into race day. At a track where raw aero performance matters, starting up front could prove to be more than just a symbolic advantage.
The following shares the official starting grid for Sunday’s race, along with Texas Motor Speedway track details and key observations from NASCAR Cup Series practice and qualifying. If you are playing some fantasy today, make sure you check out our NASCAR fantasy picks for the Würth 400!

Official Würth 400 Starting Lineup
It has been a week filled with winning for Carson Hocevar. Last Sunday, he scored his first career Cup Series victory at Talladega. He doubled down with a trip to victory lane in the Craftsman Truck Series race at Texas on Friday night. His latest triumph came on Saturday afternoon when he secured the pole position for the Würth 400.
Hocevar turned his qualifying lap at 191.340 mph. The resulting pole award marks his first of the season and the second of his young Cup Series career. Both of his poles have come at Texas Motor Speedway.
With a lap time of 28.222 seconds, Hocevar beat out Spire Motorsports teammate Daniel Suarez by three one-thousandths of a second to claim the pole. Spire continued a strong season of NASCAR qualifying results as an organization by securing both front row positions.
The second row will feature the fastest qualifying Ford in Chris Buescher and the fastest Toyota from Saturday’s session in Denny Hamlin.

NASCAR Würth 400 Practice and Qualifying Notes
- This marks Daniel Suarez’s third top-10 starting position of the season in a resurgent start to his Spire Motorsports tenure. It is also his sixth such starting position in 14 races at Texas.
- Toyota once again will have several cars starting near the front with five of the top ten spots. All four Joe Gibbs Racing cars qualified in the top-10.
- Chris Buescher was the only Ford to qualify inside the top-12 for Sunday’s race.
- Defending Würth 400 race winner Joey Logano only managed to finish 23rd in this year’s NASCAR qualifying results.
- Bubba Wallace got loose during practice and tagged the wall hard. He will start at the rear of the field on Sunday in a backup car.
- Austin Dillon will also start at the back of the pack after engine issues in practice.
- Perhaps Kyle Busch’s crew chief change is already paying dividends. He posted the sixth-fastest time in qualifying as he tries to turn around what has been an awful season to date.
- William Byron posted the fastest lap in practice at 189.294. Michael McDowell and Corey Heim rounded out the top-3 practice laps times.
