Underdog Fantasy NFL DFS Picks: Rams vs Seahawks
Puka Nacua HIGHER 5.5 Rushing Yards
It is no secret that the best offensive weapon for the Los Angeles Rams is Puka Nacua. He is one of the main reasons why Matt Stafford is the frontrunner for the NFL MVP award. His work exposing underneath routes and using his ability to pick up yards after the catch has been the main driving force for the Rams this season. Now, Sean McVay has been inclined to use Nacua in the run game, giving him a few rushes per game. In each of the Rams’ last three games, Nacua has recorded at least two rushing attempts.
That is once again going to be the game plan in this game, as the Seahawks have been awesome against the run this season. In fact, Seattle gave up the second-fewest rushing yards per game. With Leonard Williams, Ernest Jones and DeMarcus Lawrence, Los Angeles will struggle to run inside the tackles in this game. They will have to get to the edge early in order to work inside, that is where Nacua taking jet sweeps comes into play. With Nacua having the ball in his hands, he has the ability to get upfield quickly and make not only an impact in the pass game, but also the run game.
AJ Barner HIGHER 29.5 Receiving Yards
While the Seattle Seahawks have a number of weapons to attack the Rams with on offense, in Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Ken Walker and Rashid Shaheed, it appears that Barner still has a stranglehold on the tight end room. Barner dominates Seattle’s snap percentage at the position, with him dipping lower than 60% just twice this season. That means that he is on the field for a majority of Seattle’s offense, including both passing and rushing. With the spread of this game just being 2.5, it will be a close game, which means that Sam Darnold will have to take care of the ball and work those short-to-intermediate routes with Barner.
Barner has worked well against the Rams this season. In the two games against Los Angeles this season, he has totaled 119 receiving yards. The Rams have found some success this season in rushing the passer, so getting the ball of Darnold’s hands quickly has to be the game plan. With the Rams putting an emphasis on controlling Smith-Njigba, Barner will be the second option in those situations.
Matthew Stafford HIGHER 254.5 Passing Yards
As is the case with Drake Maye in New England, this is the game for Matt Stafford to prove that he is the MVP of the NFL. While Nacua may be the best player on this Rams team, it is no secret that Stafford is the heart and soul. This Rams team will go as far as Stafford takes them, and in the NFC Championship, that will be with Stafford’s right arm. The first reason why we go higher on this NFL DFS pick is that Seattle has been dominant against the run this season. Los Angeles will have to air the ball out to move downfield.
The second reason is that Stafford has thrown the ball incredibly over the season. Stafford has gone higher than 254.5 passing yards in each of the Rams’ last seven games. He also went higher the last time these two teams met. With Nacua, Davante Adams and the trio of tight ends for Los Angeles, Stafford has more than enough firepower to attack this really good Seattle defense. He has led the team to dominance this season, and I am expecting him to be the guy to put the team on his back in the NFC Championship.
