Hosting oval, snocross, and vintage racing, the World Championship Snowmobile Derby is the biggest, most prestigious competition. It is one of the highest-ranking winter sports events in the Midwest. The championship kicks off on the third week of January every year at the centre of Eagle River, known as the “Snowmobile Capital of the World.”

Innkeeper John Alward was the creator of the first championship, held in 1964. After some time, his son Jake talked to his father about the potential success of this championship all over the globe.
“We have a couple of snowmobiles in the garage, and Dad figured more than a few other people did, too. So he decided to start a rally in which everyone can participate.” Alward’s son Jake said.

60th World Championship Snowmobile Derby Preview:
The derby complex is on an oval track; located in the centre of Eagle River, known as the Indianapolis 500 of Snowmobile racing. The championship attracts more than 40,000 fans, where more than 500 International drivers race their high-tech snowmobiles on a solid ice oval at speeds of over 100 miles per hour.
In Championship history, Blaine Stephenson is the most successful rider, winning four times (in a row), the rider with the most titles.
One of the best championships in the world, the 60th edition of the World Championship Derby Complex is all set to kick off on January 19.
