Europe Cup Basketball 3×3 Preview
The top two sides after pool play will progress to the quarter-finals, and then the winning teams advance to the semi-final and the final.
In addition to the continental title, participating teams will have the opportunity to gain valuable points towards their federation’s ranking, which will be used in the qualification process for Paris 2024.
Having won the World Cup in June, four-time winner Serbia will enter the tournament as hot favorites in the men’s section, featuring the world’s number one player, Strahinja Stojacic, in the roster.
Meanwhile, in the women’s category, defending champion and recent World Cup runner-up France stands tall, winning three of the last four titles.
Men’s Top Players:
Strahinja Stojacic (Serbia)
Also Called ‘Doctor Strange,’ Strahinja Stojacic has been fantastic this year, winning three Masters MVPs. He played a significant role in Serbia’s triumph last year and, once again, will be the man with a considerable contribution for the opportunity to win the insane fifth straight title.
Worthy de Jong (Netherlands)
The number one most entertaining player to watch, the Dutch hoops legend, has a crazy average of 9.3 ppg from 20 World Tour games, averaging 40 in basketball.
In international competitions, he performs even better, averaging 10.6 ppg at the World Cup. Although he wasn’t part of the Dutch bronze medal side last year, his presence can surely achieve them their first-ever gold.
Nauris Miezis (Latvia)
It’s been six years since Nauris Miezis and his Latvian teammates shocked Europe by winning the tournament. However, he hasn’t won another Europe Cup and would be looking to go one step better than last year, where they finished second and Nauris made the Team of the Tournament.
Denzel Agyeman (Germany)
An 18-year-old talented player is coming to the tournament after featuring at the FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup and is arguably the most exciting youngster in the continent. He has showcased his potential in senior games before and will be a player to watch in this tournament.
Women’s Top Players:
Laetitia Guapo (France)
France’s Laetitia Guapo always performs well on the big stage. She has won more medals than Usain Bolt and claimed the MVP at the Crelan FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2022 and was part of his nation’s triumph in the previous edition.
Guapo has continued impressing this year by winning the silver medal and being named Team of the Tournament. That said, by featuring a player of such consistency, the possibility of France lifting the title is very high.
Noortje Driessen (Netherlands)
The 6ft exceptionally skilled 24-year-old Driessen averages 5.3 ppg in the Women’s Series. She is returning to the event where she achieved her breakout and will look to go one step further this year after having silver at the previous edition.
Klaudia Papp (Hungary)
5ft 6in Hungary’s Klaudia Papp is another top women’s player in the Continental tournament. She has been lighting up the Women’s series with her pace during the past two seasons, averaging 5.4 ppg.
