3 Wide Receiver Free Agents for the Giants to Target

We have seen many big names come off the board in NFL Free Agency, while the New York Giants have been quiet so far. They are yet to spend any real money, but have let multiple players walk. With the signings of Corey Davis and Nelson Agholar both coming late last night, there may be a lot of movement among the wide receiver free agents very soon.

The Giants have already begun making changes to the roster, with the release of both Kevin Zeitler and Golden Tate. While the choices have been met with criticism, they have opened the Giants spending opportunities. The cut of Zeitler saved the Giants nearly $12 million in cap space.

Wide Receiver Free Agents for the Giants to Target

Kenny Golladay

With only five games played last season, Kenny Golladay had a lackluster year. Finishing with only 20 receptions, 338 yards and two touchdowns, this season was not a great showing of what Golladay can do. If you base Golladay’s potential based on what we saw in his 2019 campaign, then there is huge upside in going after him. In 16 games, he was able to go for 1,190 yards and 11 touchdowns on 65 receptions. You could argue that he could be WR1 in this class, even alongside Chris Godwin and Allen Robinson.

Golladay would also bring a big body in the Giants WR group. Coming in at 6’4” and nearly 220 pounds, Golladay would easily be the biggest receiver in the room. Giving Daniel Jones a weapon that can go up and consistently come down with the ball would be something that he has not yet had in the NFL. Jones has found success in going deep with the ball, becoming one of the best in the league at it. A trio of Jones, Saquon Barkley and Golladay could revitalize a Giants offense that has been weak for the past few seasons.

Will Fuller

When healthy, he is one of the most explosive wideouts in the NFL. Will Fuller’s problem up to this point is staying on the field. Through his first five seasons, he has yet to play a full 16 games. In 11 games last season, Fuller finished with 879 yards and eight touchdowns. With an average of nearly 15 yards per reception, Fuller could help stretch the Giants offense. Seeing how well he was able to slide into the WR1 spot left by DeAndre Hopkins should give the Giants a reason to at least make a run at the young receiver.

Fuller’s problems don’t end with his inability to stay on the field. His lack of size may be an issue with the Giants. Fuller comes in at six-foot, which would put him right between the top two guys in New York. Darius Slayton comes in at 6’1” and Sterling Shepard comes is 5’10”. Getting Fuller wouldn’t bring the Giants the big-sized wideout that they may need to improve the offense. But for the right price, it may be worth the risk.

JuJu Smith-Schuster

JuJu Smith-Schuster has shown glimpses of potential in the number one WR spot, but hasn’t yet produced at a consistent level. He does a majority of his work in the slot, hauling in 81 catches and nine touchdowns last season, the most in the NFL when lined up there. Shepard also primarily lines up in the slot, so the offense would have to make adjustments.

The issues that come with JuJu are that he disappears entirely from games occasionally. Over last season, he dropped from WR1 to WR3 in a crowded Steelers offense. With him being only 24 years old, the potential for growth is still there. He’s a young product that can grow alongside Daniel Jones and Saquon could become a problem for the NFL.
