The Houston Texans started out last season with many question marks. How would David Culley do in his first season at the helm? How would the defense look without J.J. Watt? What would happen with Deshaun Watson and his charges? Some of these questions were answered during the season and they still need to answer some this offseason.
Here are three things the Houston Texans must do during the 2022 NFL Offseason.
What the Houston Texans Must Do During the 2022 NFL Offseason
1. Figure Out what they Want to do With Deshaun Watson
The Houston Texans tried to dump Deshaun Watson off to the Miami Dolphins, but nothing ever happened there. No one outside of those in the court system knows what is going on with Watson and how his charges are going. Regardless, Watson has previously said he wants out of Houston. The QB market is open wide right now with two future Hall of Fame QBs retiring opening up the trade markets for them on top of other teams already looking. The Texans asking price for Watson might be a little too high, but a team desperate for a QB could maybe get them to negotiate a little.
2. Don’t Give Up On Davis Mills
Who would have thought that Davis Mills would be one of the best rookie QBs of last season? That is without a good receiving core. Besides Brandin Cooks, there is not a household name in the WR/TE group. Get this man some help and maybe the offense can be better than 30th in points for.
3. Work On the Defense
The Houston Texans defense was ranked 27th in points against and 31st in yards allowed. Their defensive coordinator gets promoted to head coach somehow. The Texans don’t have much cap space at the moment ($17 million). The Texans own the third pick in this year’s draft, A lot of good talent on the top end of the draft this year. The Texans will be able to grab one of them and bolster that defense for new coach Lovie Smith.
