Pittsburgh Steelers Free Agency Targets and Needs 2025

3 Pittsburgh Steelers Free Agency Targets and Needs 2025

With NFL free agency looming, one storyline to keep your eye in the coming days is the Pittsburgh Steelers free agency transactions.

While moving forward with Russell Wilson at quarterback last season, the Pittsburgh Steelers sported once again sported one of the best defenses in the NFL. Now with Wilson likely out, the Steelers are probably going to have to look to free agency to supplement their defense with a dynamic offense. Pass catchers and defensive backs are probably the biggest needs for the Steelers in NFL Free Agency.

Pittsburgh Steelers Team Needs | NFL Free Agency 2025

While the Pittsburgh Steelers are not the team of the Ben Roethlisberger era anymore, they are still a scary opponent for any team to play against. A lot of that fear comes by way of the incredible defense. Led by TJ Watt, Joey Porter Jr. and Minkah Fitzpatrick, the Steelers should be geared up for another strong defensive season. However, there are questions on offense. Who will play under center and who is that player going to throw to?

  1. Quarterback
  2. Wide Receiver
  3. Offensive Tackle
  4. Cornerback
  5. Running Back

Pittsburgh Steelers Free Agency Targets

Davante Adams, WR

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in an odd spot because it feels like before they do anything with skill positions, they should nail down their quarterback. The issue with that is Davante Adams was recently cut by the New York Jets. If Pittsburgh were to want Adams, they would probably need to make an offer fairly quickly. If the Steelers were to keep Justin Fields at quarterback, bringing in Adams would be a perfect addition for a quarterback who has struggled with accuracy problems. The Steelers are projected to have the ninth-most available cap space, so they have more than enough ammo to go after Adams.

At this point in his career, it feels like Adams is probably a $20M a year guy, which is certainly in the cards for the Steelers. Bringing in Adams, who can still work the middle of the field with the best of them, would play a great one-two punch for George Pickens who can blow the top off of defenses. With a team that so often lacks playmakers on offense, bringing in one of the best on the market seems like an instant upgrade and one that could propel them to the next level.

Asante Samuel Jr., CB

With Donte Jackson set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, the Steelers have a major need at corner. While Asante Samuel Jr. has struggled in the run game, there is no doubt that he is a physical player and would fit well in a Mike Tomlin-ran organization. Adding Samuel would create a nice young duo with plenty of potential next to Joey Porter Jr. While Samuel’s coverage skills have sort of struggled in the past couple of seasons, having a pass rush as good as the Steelers have should give Samuel plenty of opportunities to make plays in the secondary.

Another plus about Samuel is that he is just 25 years old. At around $14.5M per year, the Steelers have the ability to get a franchise corner who has the potential to develop into a star at somewhat of a discount when taking into consideration other players’ second contracts. In a division with Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson, it is imperative to pick up as much help in the secondary as possible.

Cam Robinson, OT

With Arthur Smith as offensive coordinator, we know that the Pittsburgh Steelers will run the ball. While that was the case last season, they somewhat struggled. Najee Harris was Najee Harris, but the lack of production in the run game from the offensive line was a problem. The offensive line has to be a point of emphasis for the Steelers free agency plans and they can get that going with a veteran like Cam Robinson.

Robinson enjoyed a good season last year as he helped to revive Sam Darnold’s career at Minnesota. On top of helping Darnold to a career year, Aaron Jones also enjoyed a great season behind Robinson and the offensive line. With Trey Hendrickson, Sam Hubbard and Myles Garrett in the division, going for a veteran like Robinson is probably a better option if the Steelers are looking to contend immediately.
