Believe it or not, SWAC basketball had seven teams with double-digit wins and seven teams at .500 or better in the conference. The leader of the pack this season was Alcorn State, who finished with a 14-4 conference record. The best overall record in the conference came from Southern who went 17-13. The following contains the SWAC Tournament bracket and schedule, as well as a preview of what we can expect to see. The top eight teams will be competing for an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Texas Southern advances to NCAA Tournament
SWAC Basketball Breakdown
The aforementioned Texas Southern Tigers are looking to repeat as conference representatives in the NCAA Tournament. In order to do so, they must get through the top-seeded Alcorn State Braves. The Braves enter the SWAC Tournament as the 98th-best team in the country in terms of steals. Alcorn State also features five players on the team who average over eight points per game. With a lack of experience as they only have three seniors on their entire roster. Is this a team that is set up for a failure based on their ranking? Maybe.
The team that poses the biggest threat to the Braves is the Southern Jaguars. The Jaguars feature a team that makes their money on the defensive side of the ball. Southern turns the other team over an average of 19.2 times per game. They also limit their opponents to 29.4 percent from the three-point line. The Jaguars will need junior Tyron Lyons to step up if they want to represent the conference in the NCAA Tournament.
In relation to the preseason poll, the biggest overachiever in the conference was Alcorn State, who was projected to finish seventh. The biggest underachiever in relation to the preseason poll was Prairie View A&M, as they were projected to finish second, but finished eighth.
