The busy offseason for the Kings continues. After selecting De’Aaron Fox, Justin Jackson and Frank Mason on draft night, they have begun to round out their roster via free agency. The Kings have added veterans George Hill, 31, and Zach Randolph, 35. Both players will provide meaningful contribution in multiple ways. Not only can they still score and effect games offensively, but they will now be the leaders for the prominently young roster.
George Hill signed a 3 yr./57 million dollar deal. Last season, Hill, played 49 games for the Utah Jazz, but was limited by a number of injuries. He averaged 16.9 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game. Over his nine-year career he has averages of 11.8 points, 3.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds. The Kings will be looking for him to mentor both Fox, and Mason as they get ready for their rookie seasons.
Zach Randolph has been with the Memphis Grizzlies for the past eight seasons. Over his 16-year career, he’s also played with the Trail Blazers, Knicks and Clippers. Randolph signed a 2 yr./24 million dollar deal, in what will likely be his last stop in the NBA. Over his career, he’s averaged 16.8 points, and 9.8 rebounds including last season where he scored 14.1 points with 8.2 rebounds. Just like Hill, the Kings will look for veteran leadership from Randolph for big man, Willie Cauley-Stein.
With both of these signings, it will most likely end all chances the Kings have at signing forward, Otto Porter away from Washington. They won’t have enough salary to keep their max contract offer on the table. This will end up being a positive for the Sacramento Kings.
