If you are unaware of what NFL survivor picks are, the basic concept is you make NFL picks throughout the season, but you can only pick a team once. Once you lose, you’re knocked out, so choose your Week 8 NFL Survivor Pool picks wisely.

If you are new to reading my survivor articles, what I do is outline my “lock of the week,” my “value of the week” and my “high-risk, high-reward pick.”

The lock of the week details what team I think has the best chance of winning their matchup. This would most likely be a good team that plays a bad team. The lock is also the official pick for NFL Survivor Pools, meaning we will not reuse a “lock.” My value pick of the week details a mid-tier team that has a good matchup. And finally, my high-risk, high-reward pick details a bad team that has a good matchup. It may be worth it to look at the NFL betting odds for these games and place some bets as well.

Teams Used:

  1. Baltimore Ravens
  2. Buffalo Bills
  3. Jacksonville Jaguars
  4. Kansas City Chiefs
  5. Detroit Lions
  6. Miami Dolphins
  7. Seattle Seahawks

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Washington Commanders

In a divisional matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders, I am taking the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, I know what you are thinking…the Eagles are one of the best teams in the NFL, so why wouldn’t you choose the Lions against the Raiders here in order to save the Eagles? Well, looking at the Eagles’ schedule, it is very tough coming up and I don’t see a spot where I would confidently take them. That is why I am taking them here.

Washington’s biggest weakness this year has been the play of their offensive line. Sam Howell is on pace to be the most sacked quarterback this year and one of the most sacked historically. That plays right into a major strength of the Eagles — their defensive line. With Fletcher Cox, Jordan Davis, Haason Reddick and Brandon Graham, not only will Washington struggle to pass block, but I would imagine that Brian Robinson will have a tough time getting going as well. If Washington can’t get the run game going, then I am not sure that Washington will have much success on the offensive side of the ball.

Looking at the Eagles on offense, A.J. Brown has been an absolute killer this year. With how bad Emmanuel Forbes has played, the Eagles have the obvious matchup there. Dallas Goedert has also been a much bigger part of the offense, which can open the door for Devonta Smith to work the deep part of the field. Jalen Hurts should have a fairly easy time moving the ball on
Sunday, leading to an Eagles victory.

Los Angeles Chargers vs. Chicago Bears

I can also see picking the Chargers for your NFL Survivor pool picks due to a great matchup against the Chicago Bears. Much like my reasoning with the Detroit Lions, the Chargers still get a couple of chances at inferior opponents this year like the Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos. So, if you want to take the Chargers here, I support it, but as I have stated numerous times over the four years that I have been doing these Survivor picks, I do not trust the Chargers. Luckily for them, they do not need to face Justin Fields this week. With Tyson Bagent starting, I think that the Chargers can use Khalili Mack and Joey Bosa to have a great opportunity to make life hell for the rookie quarterback.

After a letdown game last week, I also think both Justin Herbert and Austin Ekeler have big bounce-back games against a defense that is ranked 28th in the NFL in yards given up through the air (1,800). If I am Brandon Staley and Kellen Moore, I am running Ekeler as much as possible to start the game, which will undoubtedly open Keenan Allen to dominate in the middle of the field. The Chargers are also in desperate need of a win and against a much inferior opponent. I believe that this is the week that can get back on track.

Houston Texans vs. Carolina Panthers

In a matchup between Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud, I am taking Stroud’s Houston Texans to win the game. The Panthers are probably the worst team in the NFL this season. While rookie quarterbacks often struggle in their first year, Stroud has been much better than Young and I expect that to continue. With an offensive line that has not played great this season, I think DeMeco Ryans should be able to scheme up Will Anderson to get after Young early. The Panthers have also given up 866 yards on the ground this year. This means Dameon Pierce and the run game should get going fast. With that being said, I would imagine that coming off of a bye, both Dalton Schultz and Nico Collins should be healthy and can work the middle of the field.

While both teams are in the midst of a rebuild, I do think that the Texans are a little bit better along the way and should take home the bragging rights in this game. While I do believe that the Texans win this game, I would not take this game in your survivor pool, as both teams are coming off of a bye and Carolina is at home. I think of the field the Texans are the better team, but can that same thing be said about the external factors? I am not sure, but it feels risky.
