There are plenty of quality prospects in this year’s NBA Draft class. Among the players that are expected to be lottery picks this year is center Mark Williams out of Duke. The following is a complete Mark Williams draft profile including stats, highlights and an NBA Mock Draft projection.
Mark Williams NBA Draft Profile, Stats, Highlights and Projection
Mark Williams Position: Center Height: 7’0″ Weight: 242 Age: 20 Team: Duke Blue Devils
Standing seven feet tall with a 7’7″ wingspan, Williams is a force to be reckoned with defensively. He averaged nearly three blocked shots per game as a sophomore at Duke. This was simply the headline statistic for a terrific defensive season that was recognized with ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors. Williams has exceptional fundamentals when it comes to playing both on- and off-ball defense. He has strong hands to receive post feeds and has explosive athleticism to finish over would-be defenders at the rim. Williams has also flashed the ability to handle the basketball when necessary and knock down jump shots.
Weaknesses
Williams’ interior defensive mechanics may be exceptional, but he does lack lateral quickness. Thus, he could be exposed when switching on ball screens at the next level. With that being said, his overall defensive technique and fundamentals figure to transition better than most other bigs in the 2022 NBA Draft class. Offensively, Williams will need to expand his playmaking arsenal. Until he develops the ability to catch and read a defense at the elbow or on the perimeter, he will likely be limited to working in basic pick and roll sets.
