The 2022 NBA Draft is set to take place on Thursday, June 23rd. Following the results of the NBA Draft Lottery, we now have a full picture of this year’s order of picks. There are plenty of quality prospects in this year’s NBA Draft class. Among the players who could be selected as high as the latter part of the First Round is center Christian Koloko out of Arizona. The following is a complete Christian Koloko draft profile including stats, highlights and an NBA Mock Draft projection.
Christian Koloko NBA Draft Profile, Stats, Highlights and Projection
Christian Koloko Position: Center Height: 6’10” Weight: 221 Age: 22 Team: Arizona Wildcats
A native of Cameroon, Christian Koloko took the college basketball world by storm in his third season at Arizona. Perhaps he is most renowned and known for his presence as a rim protector on the defensive end. Koloko averaged nearly three blocks per game this past season. He is a tremendous help defender thanks to his keen awareness and his ability to change directions quickly. The latter of these skills falls in line with the fact that Koloko is more mobile than most players of his size in general. While his offensive game was primarily limited to flushing home lobs in college, Koloko has shown an ability to seal defenders and finish smoothly at the rim when under duress.
Weaknesses
While Koloko’s upside is tremendous, he remains one of the rawer prospects in the 2022 NBA Draft class. Such is life for an international player who only began playing basketball seriously at age 15. Thus, Koloko still needs tutelage and skill refinement in a number of areas. It wasn’t until his junior year at Arizona that he showed much consistency. Koloko must learn to read a defense better and avoid forcing passes that aren’t there. He will also need to cut down on the number of illegal screens he sets. While he has yet to show anything in terms of an outside shot, the fact that Koloko has a promising stroke at the line and improved dramatically in this area offers hope that he could develop range eventually.
