Carlos Rodon is a Sleeper Fantasy Baseball Pitcher in 2024

The 2023 MLB season was a year to forget for New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon. After two consecutive years of producing over 150 points in most fantasy baseball leagues, Rodon managed under 30 total last season after being plagued by injuries. Some will look to avoid him, but is the Carlos Rodon fantasy baseball value ready to bounce back for the 2024 season?

Carlos Rodon is a Sleeper Fantasy Baseball Pitcher in 2024

The aforementioned health is the primary concern for Rodon. In his first eight seasons in the league, Rodon has been on the injured list 10 times. After trying to rush a recovery last season, no one is trusting his comeback potential.

So, why is Carlos Rodon my fantasy baseball sleeper at starting pitcher? Simply, I think the concerns are becoming overblown. While I think some caution for Rodon is warranted, in many leagues his ADP is close to the 50th SP taken. His upside is clearly above this, having finished in the top 10 of fantasy baseball SP the two years prior to last season.

But even without being bullish, there’s simply more value here. His WHIP and overall fantasy value are projected closer to a top-20 starting pitcher. And with a shorter leash this year, Rodon’s ERA should improve as well.

My main reason for projecting the Carlos Rodon fantasy value bounce back is because outside factors are tanking his stock right now. With the injury news surrounding Gerrit Cole and Aaron Judge so far this spring training, the trust in the Yankees’ health overall is plummeting. However, Rodon’s recovery in a vacuum has progressed well by all reports. So, while the risks are there, I think Rodon is more likely to be a consistent, reliable starter than not. Even if he doesn’t quite meet projections, Rodon could be the best fantasy baseball draft value pick in the whole league currently, if you can get him as your fourth or even third SP.
