Baker Mayfield has taken fantasy managers on a rollercoaster ride in recent weeks. He experienced a high from Weeks 7-10, where he consistently finished as QB11 or higher with 17 or more fantasy points. However, the ride has taken a sudden downturn quickly in the last two weeks, with Mayfield failing to score more than 14 fantasy points and not finishing higher than QB16.
Baker Mayfield Fantasy Football Outlook Week 13
On the opposing side, the Panthers have demonstrated a very tough defense on opposing quarterbacks, particularly after their bye week. Over the last five games, they’ve faced backup quarterbacks, most of whom are now starting, including Gardner Minshew, Tyson Bagent, and Will Levis. All three of these quarterbacks failed to reach double-digit fantasy football points. The Panthers have also faced two starting quarterbacks in this five-game span, with CJ Stroud delivering a subpar performance of 12.9 fantasy points, which is his second-lowest of the season and the only time he’s been held to under 15 fantasy points in his last six games. Dak Prescott, who has been torching defenses, struggled to a degree in his game against the Panthers, scoring under 24 fantasy points, which is his only game to fall short of that mark in his last six games.
Funny enough, despite not recording an interception in the last five weeks (the only team to do so), the Panthers have allowed the fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks in that same span. While their defense may not boast flashy statistics, they have proven to be a tough matchup for quarterbacks, restricting even fantasy-relevant quarterbacks like CJ Stroud and Dak Prescott to below-average numbers. Considering Mayfield’s current slump and the tough Panthers defense, there’s a reasonable expectation that this downward trend may continue for him in Week 13.
