Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 13 RBs

Start: RJ Harvey Fantasy Outlook at Commanders

FantasyPros’ Expert Consensus Ranking (ECR) Rank: 18

Zach Brunner’s Week 13 Fantasy Football Rankings

Prior to last week’s bye, RJ Harvey was given his first audition as the lead back for the Denver Broncos following the JK Dobbins injury. While it would have made sense to slowly ease Harvey into an increased role, Sean Payton fully trusted the rookie. He played over 61% of the snaps and totaled 14 touches. Following up this performance with a bye week couldn’t be better for the rookie, as the Broncos used the off week to fix some of the little mistakes while working him into the offense more. Now, he’s back with a juicy matchup.

The Broncos face off against the Washington Commanders in a matchup that looks like the perfect get-right week for a Denver offense that has struggled. Overall, this Commanders defense has been bad. They allow 6.3 yards per play, which is the most in the league. Clearly, you can move the ball against them. On top of that, the Commanders allow the fourth-most fantasy points to RBs as well as the seventh-most yards per carry (4.7). RJ Harvey fantasy owners should be thankful they have the rookie at this point in the season.

Start: Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell Fantasy Outlook vs Bills

ECR Ranks: 19 and 26

Yes, both Pittsburgh Steelers RBs make the Week 13 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em article. When you face off against a Buffalo run defense that is softer than the person who turns down a second slice of pie, there is plenty to go around! That has been the case for these two backfield teammates as well, with a very healthy split going for the Steelers. Last week, Jaylen Warren totaled 68 yards on 18 carries in 51.4% of the snaps, while Kenneth Gainwell totaled 122 yards on 16 total touches in 50% of the snaps. Look for both RBs to see a bunch of usage against a run defense that is even worse than the one they faced in Chicago.

What is there to say about the Buffalo Bills that I haven’t said for years on our YouTube channel with a big smile on my face? This team couldn’t stop a nosebleed. Buffalo has given up the third-most fantasy points to RBs this season. They also have surrendered the second-most yards per carry this season (5.3 yards), and it isn’t getting any better, with them allowing 5.2 yards per carry in their last three games. Look for Pittsburgh to run the ball early and often, trying to keep Josh Allen off the field as much as possible. That’s great for Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell.

Sit: Aaron Jones Fantasy Outlook at Seahawks

ECR Rank: 25

Does anyone have faith in the Minnesota Vikings’ offense right now? No? I don’t either. No JJ McCarthy should help this offense’s overall efficiency, but they still draw a tough matchup against a Seattle Seahawks defense that is especially tough for Aaron Jones and the running game.

Seattle is third this season in yards per carry allowed, at 3.8 yards. This drops to 3.4 when we only consider running back carries. They are the eighth-toughest against fantasy RBs this year, and Max Brosmer will be the quarterback who needs to back off Seattle’s defense from crowding the line of scrimmage. The Seahawks’ pass rush will have him rattled. He should connect with Jones on a few passes, which possibly could help keep him from being a total bust. However, the matchup suggests Aaron Jones will be inefficient running the ball, and I don’t think he will have much of an opportunity to score a touchdown. This combination lands him on the “Sit” side of the Week 13 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em.

Sit: Tyrone Tracy Jr. Fantasy Outlook at Patriots

ECR Rank: 27

Last week, the New York Giants completely changed their backfield usage. Previously, Tyrone Tracy Jr. played between the 20-yard lines while Devin Singletary mixed in and took all of the red zone work. Last week, it was the Tracy show, with him playing over 70% of the snaps while also getting red zone and even goal line work. So, one would think I am higher on Tyrone Tracy Jr. However, I am not.

Yes, Tracy got the red zone work last week, but he had five total carries in this area of the field, including two inside the five-yard line, but didn’t find the end zone. There is a strong chance they will go back to Singletary in this area of the field. The matchup is also terrible, as the New England Patriots allow the second-fewest fantasy points to RBs this season. Sit Tyrone Tracy Jr.
