Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 6 WRs Include Ladd McConkey

Week 6 fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em WR analysis from FlurrySports includes the likes of Los Angeles Chargers’ WR Ladd McConkey.

Two of the best defenses against fantasy football wide receivers are on bye this week: the Houston Texans and Minnesota Vikings. So, even though this means some top receivers are out as well, we could be in for some big weeks! However, that doesn’t make this week any easier. Navigating bye weeks can be a pain, but our Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em WRs series is here to help you get a win despite the chaos that this week brings.

In this weekly Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em article, we will be talking about the WR2/3 grey area, where you may have some tough decisions that will need to be made. Players like Jaxon Smith-Njigba or Ja’Marr Chase will not be discussed. Yes, start them. You drafted them early for a reason, and it’s too early to move away from them! Instead, we are more concerned about the low-end WR2 or WR3 area where a player with a solid matchup should return value that is worth the start, and vice versa.

Now, labeling a player as a “sit” does not mean they are a must-sit player. As always, check out my weekly fantasy football rankings here. You can also become a member to join a group chat with me and other members where all fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em questions are welcomed!

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 6 WRs

Start: Ladd McConkey Fantasy Outlook at Dolphins

FantasyPros’ Expert Consensus Ranking (ECR) Rank: 24

Zach Brunner’s Week 6 Fantasy Football Rankings

With the Los Angeles Chargers down their top two running backs, the running game could be a bit inefficient in this game. When that is the case, the easiest way to mimic a strong running game is with quick passes, and this shapes up very well for Ladd McConkey.

It was a tough start to the season for McConkey, but the second-year WR finally found the end zone last week. With an 8.67-yard average depth of target, it’s clear McConkey’s role is underneath. The Chargers simply want to get the ball in his hands, as he can be electric after the catch. The Miami Dolphins rank dead last in completion percentage allowed (74.5%), so getting the ball in his hands should not be an issue. The Dolphins have a whopping 56 missed tackles this season, so look for McConkey to break a play for a big gain at least once in this game. Don’t overthink it, start him!

Start: Kendrick Bourne Fantasy Outlook at Buccaneers

ECR Ranks: 45

Did you rush to the fantasy football waiver wire to claim Kendrick Bourne after he exploded for 142 yards last week? While there certainly is an expiration date on this fantasy value, everything is shaping up for him to be a “start” in our Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em yet again!

Kyle Shanahan said he is “not counting” on Ricky Pearsall to play this week, while Jauan Jennings didn’t practice on Wednesday either. If this remains true, Mac Jones should be targeting his former teammate from the New England Patriots often, and Bourne is still in play with even just Pearsall out. The matchup is great for him this week, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have surrendered a 68.1% completion rate and 16 passes of 20+ so far. It’s not easy to run against Tampa, so look for San Francisco to throw it once again in this game. Obviously, that will be great for Kendrick Bourne fantasy owners.

Sit: Jameson Williams Fantasy Outlook vs Chiefs

ECR Rank: 31

It has been tough to be a Jameson Williams fantasy owner. Through five weeks, he ranks as WR50 in PPR scoring, and not everyone ahead of him has played five weeks. The Detroit Lions receiver has totaled just 11 receptions, and he has just one game with more than two. Our Opportunity Index shows his average depth of target is 19.9 yards, showing he is only being used as a weapon to stretch the field right now. With nearly all of his targets being low-percentage plays, it means he is a boom/bust player.

This week, Jameson Williams faces a Kansas City Chiefs defense that allows the fifth-fewest fantasy points to WRs. On top of that, they have allowed just 2.6 passes of 20+ yards per game, so the likelihood of Williams achieving one of these plays is lower than average against this defense.

Sit: Tee Higgins Fantasy Outlook vs Packers

ECR Rank: 35

Despite getting paid, Tee Higgins has been the forgotten player on this Cincinnati Bengals offense. Joe Burrow is hurt, Ja’Marr Chase is demanding the ball, Chase Brown is playing poorly, the tight ends are making plays with the ball, and Tee Higgins is… lost in the mix somewhere. Higgins is WR48 in five games this season. He has just 13 receptions for 158 yards and two touchdowns so far.

Over the first month, Higgins has been the deep threat for the Bengals, leading the WRs with a 13.6-yard average depth of target. Unfortunately, the Green Bay Packers have been the best against big plays so far this season, allowing just six passes of 20+. Expect Micah Parsons and company to be in the quarterback’s lap, leading to quick passes, and those aren’t going to Tee Higgins. For now, Higgins will stay as a “sit” in our Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em.
