For the most part, defenses were a step ahead of offenses in the opening week of the new NFL season. As a result, even some low-regarded defenses were able to put together solid fantasy football scoring outputs. Given the varying degrees to which coaches deploy their starters in the preseason, it’s fair to expect the defenses to have the upper hand in the majority of contests for at least a couple more weeks. The positive is that it’s a tad bit easier to successfully find a productive fantasy football streamers option at the D/ST position.
While there are a number of decent defense streamers options available in Week 2, our selections here will deliver an uncanny amount of NFC West bias. But hey, don’t hate the messenger! Between the talent on these defenses, favorable matchups and, well, the chance to have a single division be the theme of this week’s column, what’s not to love!

Week 2 Defense Fantasy Football Streamers
Los Angeles Rams Fantasy DST (34.3%)
After being a major catalyst in the Rams’ surging to the NFC West Division crown a season ago, L.A.’s defense picked up right where it left off to begin the 2025 campaign. The Rams stymied Houston last week, holding the Texans to just nine points and 265 yards of total offense. Chris Shula’s group also forced a pair of turnovers and recorded a trio of sacks. The Rams may not have the same familiar faces on defense anymore, but this unit has a deep pool of young talent at all three levels. Jared Verse and Byron Young may be the headliners, but there are plenty of other noteworthy players accompanying them.
In Week 2, the Rams will hit the road to clash with rookie QB Cam Ward and the Tennessee Titans. After only mustering 133 yards of offense last week against Denver, there’s little reason to believe that the Titans will fare much better against another of the league’s upper-echelon defenses. Ward has a bright future ahead, but he didn’t catch any breaks out of the gates in his maiden NFL season from the schedule makers. L.A. should be able to win in the trenches and outclass a very average group of Tennessee pass-catchers in the secondary.

San Francisco 49ers Fantasy DST (32.2%)
Strong defensive play was a big reason why the 49ers were able to overcome a pair of Brock Purdy interceptions and multiple blown opportunities in the kicking game to win last weekend. Provided that the ever-present injury bug doesn’t dismantle this unit, San Francisco figures to once again have a formidable defense over the course of the season. Nick Bosa and Fred Warner remain the focal points of a group that could be poised for a massive output as a fantasy football streamers selection in Week 2.
A common theme in this column over the course of the season will be defenses matched up against the New Orleans Saints. In Week 2, it’s the 49ers who stand to benefit. The Saints couldn’t run the ball worth a lick last week, and Spencer Rattler simply hasn’t looked the part of a capable NFL starting QB thus far. Even if San Fran’s defense doesn’t come up with many turnovers or sacks, New Orleans’ general offensive ineptitude provides a stable fantasy football scoring floor.
Arizona Cardinals Fantasy DST (55.5%)
Truth be told, the Cardinals’ defense turned in a rather underwhelming fantasy football streamers performance against the aforementioned Saints last week. Despite failing to force a turnover and only notching a single sack, Arizona put forth a positive output on the day against a bad offense. The Cardinals are back in our column once again for Week 2 thanks to another promising matchup.
Did anyone manage to catch the fan helmet game on the Jumbotron in Jacksonville last week? Bryce Young certainly did, even though it was taking place during a game in which he and the Carolina Panthers’ offense were playing some terrible football. One game into the 2025 season and it’s clear that Young still is not ready to be a winning NFL quarterback. The Cardinals’ improved defense is next in line to benefit from Young’s incompetence at the game’s most important position.
