Fantasy Football Week 8 Defense Streamers

Houston Texans (41.3%)

The Houston Texans defense got off to a modest start this season in terms of fantasy production. However, the last two weeks have been fantastic for this unit. The Texans have recorded seven takeaways and seven sacks over the last two games to rise to seventh in scoring at the D/ST position for the season. It’s great timing for the defense to be stepping up too, as Houston’s offense is down its top pass-catcher and struggling to block effectively.

As for Week 8, the Texans will be facing an Indianapolis Colts team that has actually ceded the sixth-fewest fantasy points per game to opposing defenses. So, why do we like coordinator Mike Burke’s troops this week? Well, the recent outputs are certainly encouraging. As far as the matchup itself, the Colts’ offense just isn’t very proficient when it comes to scoring points. This is especially true with Anthony Richardson back healthy and playing quarterback. Houston had a pair of sacks and an interception against Indy back in Week 1. It’s fair to expect an even better showing at home.

Los Angeles Chargers (41.0%)

The Los Angeles Chargers are quickly becoming a mainstay in our fantasy football Week 8 defense streamers column. So long as their ownership percentage allows them to qualify and they have favorable matchups, why the hell not? After all, L.A.’s Week 7 loss at Arizona was by no means the fault of the defense. In fact, the Chargers’ offense is so putrid that the defense is truly the backbone of this year’s team. Los Angeles has at least one takeaway and has not allowed more than 20 points in six games thus far.

Looming on the schedule this week is a home game against the New Orleans Saints. I say “looming” rather facetiously here as what appeared to be an electric Saints offense two games into the season has completely sputtered out of late. Sure, there’s a chance that both Derek Carr and Chris Olave return this week. Even so, Carr is not exactly a game-changer at quarterback, and Rashid Shaheed is done for the year. The Saints have surrendered the seventh-most fantasy points per game to opposing defenses. The Chargers will simply be the next team to benefit.

Atlanta Falcons (11.5%)

Admittedly, the schedule this week isn’t super kind when it comes to honing in on sound fantasy football Week 8 defense streamers. As a result, we turn to a defense with little to no pass rush as our third selection on this list. On the season, the Atlanta Falcons rank in the bottom half of the NFL in fantasy points scored at the D/ST position. Outside of a game against New Orleans in which the unit scored two touchdowns, the Falcons have given managers little reason to be excited. All of that being said, this week’s matchup could change things.

Atlanta faces the NFC South rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 8. This is the same Bucs team that ranks fourth in the NFL in scoring and has weapons galore. Except, Tampa Bay really doesn’t have weapons galore anymore. Chris Godwin is likely done for the year after undergoing ankle surgery this week. Fellow star receiver Mike Evans is expected to be sidelined through the team’s bye in Week 11. That leaves rookie Jalen McMillan and Sterling Shepard as the top weapons still standing for Baker Mayfield. If the Falcons can’t capitalize with a strong defensive showing, they can forget any hope of contending this season.
