Fantasy Football Impact of the Stefon Diggs Trade

Fantasy Football Impact of the Stefon Diggs Trade

A blockbuster trade happened on Wednesday, with the Buffalo Bills trading Stefon Diggs and 2025 fifth and sixth-round picks to the Houston Texans for a 2025 second-round pick. The Diggs trade definitely sent shockwaves through the football world, but let’s evaluate how it will affect the Stefon Diggs fantasy football value, as well as others impacted by the move.

Stefon Diggs Fantasy Football Impact With Texans

Stefon Diggs has been as consistent as he could be, finishing as a top-10 fantasy WR in PPR scoring for four consecutive seasons. However, last season was the worst finish of those seasons, with him finishing as WR9. The nosedive really started after Week 10, with only three of his 10 games (playoffs included) seeing Diggs score over double-digit PPR fantasy points. From Weeks 10-18, he finished as a disappointing WR44.

While a change of scenery in Houston gives him a fresh perspective, Stefon Diggs’ fantasy stock does take a slight hit. In Buffalo, he was always the WR1 and he saw 150+ targets in each season, but in Houston, even though he will still likely be the WR1, he joins a crowded receiving corps with Nico Collins, Tank Dell and Dalton Schultz. I don’t think you will see the targets that you saw in Buffalo, but he will still be a weapon. He could end up as a fringe top-10 WR, but he will likely finish right around a top-15 WR.

Texans Fantasy Football Impact With Stefon Diggs

If you weren’t already eyeing CJ Stroud, this Stefon Diggs trade means he will be targeted majorly in fantasy football drafts. The Texans have basically assembled a real-life fantasy football team with Dalton Schultz, Nico Collins, Tank Dell and even Noah Brown already having pretty big years or nonetheless big games. Then, you add Joe Mixon, and now Diggs. With the 2023 Rookie of the Year lighting up the league last season, adding more weapons will only brighten Stroud’s future.

This trade does negatively impact the receiving room of Collins and Dell for fantasy purposes. Nico Collins and Tank Dell will still be draftable, but they will not see the same amount of volume that you saw last year. With that, Collins moves down to a high-WR2 and Dell moves down to a solid FLEX option. This does not really impact Dalton Schultz, as he finished as TE10 in 15 games last season with 59 receptions, 635 yards, five touchdowns and 10.2 PPR fantasy points per game. If he plays a full season, I can see that being his threshold, and with two more games to play, a possibly better season is on the horizon.

Bills Fantasy Football Impact

Josh Allen finished as a top-two QB in fantasy football in each of his four seasons with Stefon Diggs. In the lone 2019 season, where Diggs was not a Bill and Josh Allen played the whole season, he finished as QB6. Right now, that is right around where I would rank him, as the Bills will more than likely draft a WR from this stacked WR draft class in one of the first two rounds of the NFL Draft, which you can read about some draft profiles for WRs in the upcoming draft here on FlurrySports.

Dalton Kincaid will surely see more targets due to this, as Kincaid really broke out last season as the pass-catching TE finishing as TE11 in PPR scoring last year. With him seeing more targets and not having to be eased in, I can see Kincaid being one of the last TEs you can draft in 10 to 12-team leagues, with volume upside.

The Bills still have WR weapons, but the one that captures my eye is Curtis Samuel. I was curious how we would fit in with Diggs and Khalil Shakir, but with Diggs gone, I absolutely love Samuel as a sleeper. He reunites with Joe Brady, and in the lone 2020 season with the Panthers when Brady and Samuel were paired, Samuel had his most productive season, setting career-highs in receptions (77) and receiving yards (851), finishing as WR25 in PPR scoring.
