Strengths

If a bucket is what you need, Teddy Allen is more than capable of delivering. He certainly lived up to the nickname “Teddy Buckets” in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. Allen dropped 37 points to power New Mexico State to an upset win over UConn. He lit up the WAC offensively all season long, averaging just under 20 points per game. Allen has plenty of height for a guard at 6’6″. He is also strong and able to finish through heavy contact at the rim. As the go-to scorer for NMSU last season, playmaking wasn’t a huge part of his game. However, Allen has shown an ability to make good reads and thread timely passes in traffic. Although his collegiate career ended at a mid-major, Allen had no trouble scoring against power conference competition in his single season at Nebraska.

Weaknesses

No prospect in the 2022 NBA Draft class had a road quite like Allen’s just to reach this point. He spent five seasons in college and played ball at four different schools during that span. At 24 years of age, Allen is one of the oldest players in this year’s draft class. In this day and age, he profiles as an extremely old prospect to just now be making the jump to the NBA. It will be interesting to see how his unique circumstances impact his stock in the eyes of team front offices. On the floor, Allen will need to clean up his ball-handling in order to cut down on turnovers. A lack of lateral quickness will also need to be addressed in order for him to improve as a defender.
