College: N/A

LaMelo Ball Highlights

Strengths

The obvious strength for LaMelo Ball is his height. Ball has exceptional shooting at the point guard position, and he can score from anywhere when he crosses half court. He looks very confident with the ball in his hands. Ball is a very good passer, who often finds open guys when in trouble. He should be okay in pick and roll defense, due to height and length. Ball is very good at handling the ball. He has a good crossover dribble that he often uses to get by better-defending point guards. The guard is very good at creating space with a solid jab step and step back jump shot. He has long arms that he can use to disrupt many passes. With all of the hype surrounding him, he very well could be the face of a franchise for a high lottery team.

Weaknesses

Like his brother Lonzo, he has an unorthodox jump shot. He seems to shoot the ball from his chin, rather than above his head. While he can score from all over the court, he does this inefficiently, as some of his long threes become bad misses. Ball should add some weight to be able to finish against stronger forwards and centers. He seems to be only effective with the ball in his hands and often floats around the three-point line, rather than working to get the ball. Just like the hype surrounding him could be a strength, it could also be a weakness, as he may feel too much pressure.

NBA Draft 2020 Prediction

Charlotte Hornets (No. 3)

Completing the Ball brother trinity, LaMelo Ball should end up as the best out of the three. Due to Anthony Edwards being the best player in the draft and the Warriors needing a big man, taking James Wiseman, Ball should be available at three. He should be an instant starter and face of the franchise for Charlotte. Ball should bring some energy to Charlotte and help them make the climb up from the bottom of the East. He should be allowed to go crazy and take whatever shots he needs, due to the lack of the scoring options on the Hornets. His passing ability will get some of the role players involved as well. If the Hornets can make some moves in free agency and/or compile more draft picks to put around Ball, they may be a playoff team within a couple seasons.
