Lonzo Ball joins the Lakers after being drafted second in the draft. He joins a franchise that has been hurting for the past couple of years. The last Laker highlight was the great Kobe Bryant’s final game at Staples. Today, Los Angeles have a new face, a new team, and Laker fans are optimistic about their team once again.

Lonzo Ball joined the team and quickly made an impact during the NBA’s Summer league. According to ESPN, Ball averaged 16.3 points, 9.3 assists, 7.7 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. The young kid from Chino, California made his presence felt and the league recognized him by awarding him the Summer League MVP. The Los Angeles Lakers are making headlines once again.Even though this is only the summer, great things can come of this young Lakers team.

In addition to Ball, Kyle Kuzma, who was a late draft pick for the team, also made his presence felt.  Kuzma, who stepped in during the Summer League finals and won the Finals MVP, is a valuable piece to this Laker organization. Ball and Kuzma showed us a small clip of what to expect in the upcoming years. For now, these two will be joining the rest of the team in preparation for this NBA season.

Finally, Laker basketball is back in full shift. Magic Johnson stated that he wants, “the Lakers to aim for excellence.” I think this summer is definitely a step in the right direction. Laker fans who miss Kobe Bryant can now begin to look at their new stars. The Lakers won their first NBA Summer League championship, and both of their young stars were named MVP’s.
