SmackTok Fantasy NFL DFS Picks: Jaguars vs Ravens
Zay Flowers HIGHER 42.5 Receiving Yards
On SmackTok, there are always various discounted picks for you to make! For Thursday Night Football, Zay Flowers’ receiving pick is set at 42.5, down from 47.5. Now, the obvious argument against this pick is the quarterback play, but that does not worry me too much for this game. Joe Fagnano is coming into the game with a few days of preparation with the first team, giving him a chance to build that relationship with players like Flowers. Looking at last week, Flowers finished the game with zero receptions. A point of emphasis this week has to be getting Flowers the ball early and often, considering that he is the best receiving weapon that the Ravens have.
Jacksonville has been very good against the run this season, but they have struggled against the pass. This year, the Jaguars are giving up 253.9 yards through the air per game. That number ranks as the fourth-most in the NFL this season. With how good Zay Flowers’ route-running ability is, he has the skill set to be open on almost every passing play. Using him underneath will help to open the run game a little bit as the Jaguars’ linebackers will be forced to back off of the line of scrimmage.
Outside of last week, Flowers has gone higher than this number in every game that he has played in this season.
Mark Andrews HIGHER 2.5 Receptions
As I alluded to with Zay Flowers, it is easy to discount the receiving corps when an inexperienced quarterback starts, but one thing that seems to always work in the quarterback’s favor is utilizing the tight end. Mark Andrews will be used as a great safety blanket option for Joe Fagnano. While his better years are behind him, Andrews has a lot of experience finding the soft spot in the defense and becoming a very easy completion for his quarterback.
Receptions set at 2.5 is just too low for Andrews. He has gone higher than this line in seven out of eight games this season. He certainly has not played to the level of what we have seen in the past, but that does not matter in this game. What matters is that he gets those three receptions. Jacksonville has given up 29 receptions to tight ends, meaning that they have given up just over three receptions per game to the position. With Andrews holding the highest snap share between the Ravens tight ends this season, it makes sense that he takes advantage of this and comes away with the most receptions among the tight end group this week.
Parker Washington HIGHER 64.5 Receiving Yards
Parker Washington has been one of the many bright spots for the Jacksonville Jaguars this season. Playing as the slot receiver in the Jaguars’ offense, Washington has been an easy completion all season long for Trevor Lawrence. Coming into Week 9, I am expecting a heavy dose of Washington, in the same vein that I am expecting Flowers to succeed this week. The Ravens have given up just 654 rushing yards to running backs this season, so using Washington underneath to open up the pass game will be key for the Jaguars to attack this defense.
Through the air, the Ravens have not been as good against the pass. The Ravens are giving up 1,421 receiving yards this season, meaning that Washington, who we know can explode for huge games, will be heavily involved this week. With Washington and the running game being great complements to each other, it makes a lot of sense for both of them to succeed this week, given the Ravens’ struggles against receivers.
