Fantasy football draft season is here, and I have everything you need to set yourself up for success this season! I spent hundreds of hours building this year’s fantasy football draft kit, which you can find at Draft.FlurrySports.org. There is information for free on there, including the most realistic mock draft tool on the market. However, the advanced and exclusive stats, as well as my updated rankings, will be behind the paywall.
This means that my fantasy football draft rankings for quarterbacks below are actually the rankings from a couple of weeks ago. While you can get a bunch of value from these, the updated rankings will be in the draft kit this season!

Fantasy Football Quarterback Competitions
There have been a few legitimate quarterback competitions this season, which matters for fantasy football. With any quarterback competition, the veteran will most likely “win,” meaning they will get the Week 1 start. However, that does not mean they will be the quarterback all year. In fact, their leash may be quite short.
It is very difficult to make the Week 1 starter an inexperienced quarterback only to switch to the veteran midseason. It is much easier to transition from the veteran to the young guy for several reasons. Fan and team expectations change throughout the year. If the veteran is playing poorly, or if the team is losing games, the mentality shifts to future seasons. This gives coaches the ability to play the younger player, who has less pressure to be perfect. They gain the needed experience, and teams get to evaluate whether they are the long-term solution or if they would rather draft the replacement. Offensive lines are also worse early in the season, so teams would rather not let the long-term player take unneeded hits.
If a team holds a real competition and they name the inexperienced quarterback as the starter, they throw them into the fire and give them a worse situation to succeed. However, it does mean they are much more likely to be the starter all year long.
For example, if Fernando Mendoza is named the Week 1 starter, I will adjust my fantasy football draft rankings to predict he is the starter all season. However, if Kirk Cousins is the starter (which I believe will be the case), I am not predicting 17 games of Cousins. Rather, he will play until he gets hurt or until the offensive line becomes cohesive enough to protect Mendoza.
With that in mind, these were the preseason quarterback competitions, along with my projected Week 1 starter. The bolded player is my projected Week 1 starter, while the player listed first is the higher player in my QB fantasy football draft rankings:
- Kyler Murray vs JJ McCarthy
- Fernando Mendoza vs Kirk Cousins
- Michael Penix Jr. vs Tua Tagovailoa
- Shedeur Sanders vs Deshaun Watson
- Jacoby Brissett vs Carson Beck
