Fernando Mendoza Scouting Report
Strengths
Many scouts on their Fernando Mendoza NFL Draft scouting report feel he is the best quarterback prospect to come out of college in years, and it is tough to argue with that. He looks like he was built in a lab, with the perfect build and frame. Mendoza is also both a proven winner and a leader. His accuracy is elite while also showcasing a fast release. He works through his progression and delivers it to receivers on time and on target.
Where many college quarterbacks struggle to anticipate windows and throws against zone coverage, Mendoza thrived at this in college. He has the skills that should translate relatively quickly to the next level.
Weaknesses
This is not a fair criticism of Mendoza, but he played with incredible players. Simply, Indiana’s offense was better at nearly every position, creating very easy throws for the Heisman winner on a consistent basis. There is no doubt he benefited from his teammates and the RPO-heavy scheme he played in.
Many are touting Mendoza’s “sneaky” mobility during this draft process. Yes, he is capable of picking up some yards with his legs, but his mobility in the pocket is below average. If he is playing behind a bad offensive line, this will lead to increased contact, off-platform throws and sacks. He especially showcased some issues with pressure up the middle, due to his lack of mobility.
Fernando Mendoza Fantasy Football Outlook
Mendoza’s 2026 Value
As far as 2026 is concerned, fantasy managers should not draft Mendoza with the expectation of him being a viable option out of the gates. With the Raiders signing Kirk Cousins to a multi-year deal in free agency, it looks as though the plan is to have Mendoza sit and learn to begin his NFL career.
That said, the Raiders’ offensive line remains a concern. With Cousins being immobile, there’s a real chance of him getting hurt. This would, in all likelihood, thrust Mendoza into action. The alternative is that Las Vegas falls so far out of playoff contention that letting the No. 1 overall pick get his feet wet just makes sense.
Given the presence of Cousins’ and the Raiders’ lack of legitimate wide receiver weapons, Mendoza is only worth a look in the late rounds of redraft leagues that have the option or mandate to start two quarterbacks. In single QB leagues, he is not worth pursuing this year.
Fernando Mendoza Dynasty Fantasy Football Value
For dynasty purposes, obviously Mendoza’s rookie draft outlook is much higher than his redraft status for 2026. He likely lands somewhere between second and fourth when it comes to dynasty rookie rankings depending on one’s belief in the other prospects. Considering the landing spots of the wide receivers that went in the first-round, I would lean more towards Mendoza being solidified as the top option at 1.02 than before the draft.
