FlurrySports discusses the Rhamondre Stevenson fantasy outlook for Week 17 following the TreVeyon Henderson injury update!
Championship week is here! That means you are probably pretty set with the current make up of your fantasy football team. At least in the main positions you are. If you were so unfortunate as to suffer a TreVeyon Henderson injury, the “next man up” mentality of football could benefit you for Week 17. Especially if you rode Henderson’s hot hand to the fantasy football championship, I have a very easy pivot for you.
The Rhamondre Stevenson fantasy outlook has skyrocketed since Henderson’s injury, and he may be available in your league. With Henderson likely to miss time, Stevenson is not only a must-add, but a must-start this week.
TreVeyon Henderson Injury Update
As the season pushed along, TreVeyon Henderson had seemingly found a role in the New England Patriots’ offense. That has paid off for your fantasy team! Since Week 10, Henderson has fantasy finishes of RB4, RB3, RB21, RB30 and RB3, meaning that he was worth a start in basically each of the past five weeks. That all came crashing down last week after Henderson suffered a head injury in New England’s matchup with the Baltimore Ravens. Henderson was eventually listed with a concussion, meaning that his Week 17 status against the New York Jets is in serious doubt. Given that the Patriots have already clinched a playoff spot, it does not make sense for them to run Henderson back too quickly, and with an injury that can get a little dicey, I know the Patriots think the same.
Rhamondre Stevenson had a solid hold on this Patriots running back room early in the season, as he had three top-15 running back performances in fantasy football until a injury forced him out of three weeks in Week 9. As I stated before, Week 10 is when Henderson’s relevance really started to shine, so given that Henderson misses time this week, it is not unreasonable to believe that Stevenson picks that work back up that he lost with Henderson’s emergence.

Rhamondre Stevenson Fantasy Outlook for Fantasy Championship
Against Baltimore last week, in the absence of TreVeyon Henderson, Rhamondre Stevenson finished the game with 51 yards and a touchdown on eight rushing attempts. Looking at the current depth chart of the Patriots, Stevenson has to be the leading candidate to see a bulk of the carries. He is the only true workhorse running back on the team, as D’Ernest Johnson would be the next player in line to see carries. Given the Patriots postseason future already fairly set, it does not make much sense for the Patriots to rely on Drake Maye to carry the team this week. Stevenson has also worked as one of the better goal line backs over recent memory, and even with Henderson playing, he was getting carries within the red zone.
Looking ahead to the fantasy football championship, the Patriots have as good of a matchup as any team. This week, the New England Patriots take on the New York Jets. On the season, the New York Jets are giving up an average of 21.1 fantasy points per game to the running back position. The includes giving up a total of 1,533 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns. Over the past two weeks, we saw Travis Etienne finish as RB2, and then the New Orleans Saints totaled 84 rushing yards against them. Given that the Jets are without Quinnen Williams, the Jets rushing defense and defensive unit as a whole is not what it once was.
Stevenson is going to be a big name that is picked up in fantasy football this week, just given his increase in role and the quality of the Patriots’ opponent this week. You need to look if Stevenson is available in your league. If he is, he is absolutely worth a pickup this week. If you do pick him him up or if he is burning a hole in your bench, now is the time to get him into your lineup as he is a candidate to win you a fantasy championship.
