Where and how to watch United States vs. Morocco soccer 1st June

The USMNT Team returns to action today for the first time since punching its ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The USMNT is set for some early 2022 World Cup work when they host Morocco in a friendly at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Wednesday.

Here’s what awaits the Yanks in Ohio after placing third in the Concacaf Octagonal earlier this year.

Aside from a few noticeable absences due to injury, it’s quite a strong lineup to start out the summer with. One intriguing tactic shift is that of Brenden Aaronson, who will lineup up in a central midfield spot instead of the usual winger position he usually occupies.

USA vs. Morocco World Cup preparation friendly preview

USMNT

The USMNT are back in a World Cup for the first time since Brazil 2014 after a galling miss on Concacaf’s final day of qualifying for Russia 2018. With those demons exorcised, it’s time for one of the world’s youngest national teams to get ready for the world’s biggest stage.

Berhalter’s named a 26-man roster for this camp, which was reduced by one after an ankle injury forced CF Montréal midfielder Djordje Mihailovic to drop out amid a fantastic MLS campaign. Manchester City goalkeeper Zack Steffen is also out due to family reasons, with NYCFC’s Sean Johnson replacing him.

What’s left is a somewhat first-choice team, one that’s weathering its fair share of injuries. So don’t expect an ideal XI, but standouts like Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic, RB Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams and Nashville SC center back Walker Zimmerman are rearing to go.

Jesus Ferreira, who is in USMNT camp this month, has been and appears to remain second in line for the job. The 21-year-old FC Dallas is red-hot in MLS this season, with 9 goals and 4 assists in 14 appearances despite the fact he’s more of a play-making no. 10 than a goal-scoring no. 9 and has been even slower to acclimate to the international game.

Morocco

The Atlas Lions are the first African team the USMNT will face under Berhalter’s leadership, having gone unbeaten in CAF World Cup Qualifying (7W-0L-1D) while scoring 25 goals and surrendering only three. This go-around, the 2018 World Cup participants are drawn into Group F along with Belgium, Croatia and Canada, the latter of which topped Concacaf qualifying.

We’ll see who indeed features, but head coach Vahid Halilhodžić’s squad is ripe with players from top-end European leagues. The likes of Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi, Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat and Sevilla forward Youssef En-Nesyri are among the standouts, with Wolves defender Romain Saïss their captain.

USA vs Morocco Prediction

Both teams will be looking to win the game ahead of more crucial fixtures later on in June and that should come to the fore on Thursday. Both teams seem equally matched despite their differences in form.

We predict a tight game, with neither team coming out on top in a draw.

Prediction: USA 1-1 Morocco
