Ben Roethlisberger Contract Restructured With Steelers

Roethlisberger, who turned 39 on Tuesday, was slated to make $19 million this season for the final year of his contract. According to Adam Schefter, that total has been reduced to $14 million and spread to 2022, which will lower the Steelers’ cap hit by $15 million.

Roethlisberger commented on the deal, saying it’s his “greatest honor to be a Pittsburgh Steeler.”

“I am grateful to be at this stage of my career and more than happy to adjust my contract in a way that best helps the team to address other players who are so vital to our success,” Roethlisberger said. “I love this game and love to compete, and I believe in this team and my ability to deliver when called upon. It all starts with great preparation and I am ready to go.”

Roethlisberger is the Steelers’ all-time leader in wins, touchdown passes and passing yards. He will enter his 18th season with the team in 2021.

This boost in available money is crucial for a Steelers team who has plenty of gaps to fill in the offseason. Whether it be signing James Conner’s replacement or resigning JuJu Smith-Schuster, many key moves will be made in the coming months.
