Harrison vs Guardado Fight Preview

Unlike the UFC that follows a champion-challenger format where fights can be made at the discretion of fighters or president Dana White, the PFL World Championship follows a playoff format. In the PFL, each fighter fights twice two head-to-head bouts from April through June in the 10-fighter divisions, health provided. Points are awarded for wins, with bonuses for knockouts. The fighters with the top four results in their weight class are then paired up in a semi-final round, the winners of which result in the final matchup. In addition to earning the title of champion, each division winner also takes home $1 million. Watch the Prelims and Main Card 2021 PFL fight online here

With international restrictions still in place amidst the pandemic, the PFL featured fewer fighters in the regular season. This led to a decrease in the number of playoff rounds this year. Division sizes, of course, have also been determined by availability, which varied from class to class in the PFL’s second season in 2019. The impact on the athletes should be a positive one, entering the championship round more fresh and healthy.

The headlines to the 2021 PFL World Championship fight card are reigning champions in Harrison and Cooper. They each reached the final with 2-1 records this season. Coincidentally, both of the top contenders in Harrison and Cooper’s respective divisions were unable to compete in the playoff round.
