With a 1-0 win over Portugal, Morocco became the first African team to ever advance to the FIFA World Cup semifinals. Although the team struggles to match up with many teams on paper, their defense and counter-attacking offense have caused fits for everyone they have matched up against. Morocco has given up just one goal this entire tournament and that was thanks to an own goal in the group stage.
For as good as Morocco’s defense has been, they have never faced a challenge like France. While Spain and Portugal are both solid squads, both teams had weaknesses coming into the tournament at the striker position. Spain’s Alvaro Morata wasn’t in great form and an aging Cristiano Ronaldo was far from his usual self for Portugal.
France has lost six players from their World Cup squad due to injury but are still just as good as any other team. Olivier Giroud is one of the most underrated strikers in the game and winger Kylian Mbappe may just be the best player on the planet. Morocco’s had a good run, but France should be able to do more than enough to leave with a win.
