The next generation of women’s hockey players around the world is in action this starting this Monday, June 6th at the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship in Wisconsin. The University of Wisconsin’s LaBahn Arena is the main venue for the tournament (rescheduled due to covid-19), total eight teams will play in three games each in either Pool A or Pool B to qualify for the three-round playoff. At the end, gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded at the conclusion of the final on Monday, June 13, 2022.

IIHF Ice Hockey U18 2022 Preview

The 2022 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship will take place June 6-13, 2022, in Madison, Wis. LaBahn Arena, the state-of-the-art home of the University of Wisconsin women’s ice hockey team, and Bob Suter’s Capitol Ice Arena, home of the USHL’s Madison Capitols, will serve as host venues for the competition.

The 2022 tournament was originally scheduled to take place in Linköping and Mjölby, Sweden. On Dec. 24, 2021, it was announced by the IIHF that all January 2022 championships would be canceled, including the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship.

Seven other sides will be competing with the USA – Canada, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Sweden, Germany, Finland, and Slovakia.

Divided into two initial groups of four in the preliminary round, the four teams from Group A and the best two teams from Group B advance to the playoff round while the third and fourth-placed team in Group B will play a best-of-three relegation round series. There will then be a straight knockout to determine the winner.

This will be the 14th edition of the Championship after they were first played back in 2008. The United States are the most successful team in the competition’s history with eight titles, and are one of only two teams to win the Championship along with Canada.

2022 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship Schedule

The playoffs will begin June 10 with the quarterfinals and relegation series, which is played between the two bottom teams in Group B. The semifinals and fifth-place game will be held on June 12 and the bronze- and gold-medal games will be played on May 29.
