A career that has been largely recognized due to injury seems to be heading in the right direction for Steven Stamkos. After suffering a torn meniscus that ended his 2016-17 season after just 17 games, many wondered what Stamkos would look like coming back from yet another significant injury. Wonder no more. Stamkos has a NHL best 21 assists and 28 points through just 16 games, just one less game than he played all last season. The stellar play of Stamkos has also risen the game of another star playing along side of him; that man is Nikita Kucherov. Kucherov…

After two weeks up top, the Los Angeles Kings have finally been knocked down a couple of pegs. After a 2-1-0 week, the Tamp Bay Lightning hold the best record in the league and have cemented themselves up atop the power rankings. The feel good story of the Vegas Golden Knights had a rough week starting 0-3-0 before salvaging a win over the Ottawa Senators Saturday on the road. Another week is in the books and we are ready for another week of power rankings. Last Week’s Rankings Here are this week’s power rankings! Games Not Included: Avalanche @ Islanders;…

ALL HAIL THE VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS! This past week the Vegas Knights set a record for the best start to a season for an expansion team, beating the Colorado Avalanche 7-0 to move to 8-1 on the season. The Vegas Knights are just one of three teams with only one regulation loss, with the Ottawa Senators and the Los Angeles Kings being the other two. Is the run sustainable? Probably not, but what the Knights are doing right now is unbelievable and is great for hockey as well as that city. As we get deeper into the NHL season we…

We are a couple weeks into the NHL season and the standings are beginning to take shape. The Tampa Bay Lightning look like they are ready for a bounce-back year and the St. Louis Blues are carrying over their strong playoff run into the first couple weeks of the season. The Vegas Knights look like the real deal, as their speed is nothing to snarl at, while the Montreal Canadians still can’t score and Carey Price is in a slump to begin the season. As a stated last week, each week the power rankings will not include the game from…

We are through the extended first week of the regular season and have seen some early surprises. The young New Jersey Devils have started off the season scorching hot with a 4-1 record, while having the third-best goal differential at +8. The Chicago Blackhawks have the best goal differential at +12 thanks to a 10-1 beat down of the Pittsburgh Penguins, while the Arizona Coyotes and Buffalo Sabres have the worst goal differential at -11. Each week the power rankings will not include the games from Sunday night, as I conduct my rankings before the games have finished. Without further…

We are about one week into the NHL regular season, and although we don’t know too much just yet, there are a few things that we have learned from the first week. Here are five things that I have learned about the young NHL season so far! 1) Vegas Better than we Thought? I know it’s only two games, but Vegas looks like they may belong. They have been led by veterans James Neal and Marc-Andre Fleury. Through those two games, James Neal has scored three of the team’s four goals, and Fleury has a .973 save percentage, while only…

There is a new highest paid player in the NFL, and many people believe that it is not deserved.  Matthew Stafford signed a 5-year deal worth $135 million on Monday, meaning Stafford will make an average annual salary of $27 million a year, more than ex-highest paid player Derek Carr ($25 million).  Since the news was released Monday, many football fans have been up in arms about the contract Stafford received, but I believe the contract is more than justified. The first reason why Stafford deserves this…

Fullback is becoming a position used less and less in football, but for a run-heavy offensive team in the Wisconsin Badgers, a good fullback is essential. The Badgers do have senior Austin Ramesh, but they also have Green Bay native Alec Ingold. The road to fullback was not an ordinary one for Ingold. He was the starting quarterback for Bay Port High School in 2014, his senior year. He led Bay Port to the Division 1 Semifinal game where they fell to Kimberly. Ingold, a duel-threat quarterback, ran for 178.8 yards per game, on his way to 2,324 rushing yards…
