As the Big 12 looks for national respect, the first weekend of the college football season didn’t spark many positive feelings, thanks to struggles from Texas and Baylor. The Good Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and TCU looked good, rolling past overmatched foes. Baker Mayfield was nearly perfect (19-20, 329 yards, 3 TD passes) in a 56-7 rout of UTEP. And his OSU counterpart, Mason Rudolph was good also, going 20-24 for 303 yards and three scores in a 59-24 victory against Tulsa. TCU pummeled Jackson State 63-0, while Texas Tech routed a good FCS foe in Eastern Washington 56-10 in solid…

After a number of years near the top of the Big 12 and all of college football, last year wasn’t what the fans have come to expect at Texas Christian. The Horned Frogs went just 6-6 in the season, squeaked into the Liberty Bowl which they then lost to Georgia. While most of the talk in the Big 12 is focusing on what Oklahoma or Oklahoma State may do, or if Texas and Kansas State can jump forward, the Horned Frogs seem to be flying under the radar. FedEx dumped a ton of money in to sponsor it, and golf had what most other sports culminate their seasons with – a playoff. But it’s still a big deal. Here’s a look at what to watch for this year. The Rules The top 125 players in the season-long point standings advance into the…

Perhaps more than almost any other season the school has played, the words are everywhere about Oklahoma State football this August. Experts, fans and anyone with a social media account are raving about the Cowboys’ offense. And there is a lot to like, from a returning pro prospect at quarterback to five or six really strong options at receiver to a freshman All-American running back. And yet, this is football. And while the glamour of football comes from those who throw, catch, and carry the ball, the backbone of any great team comes from what happens in the trenches. The…

At the end of the summer in 2015, golf seemed to have its next mega-superstar. Jordan Spieth had just capped off a season where he won two major championships, five total tournaments, the season-ending FedEx Cup playoffs and collected more than $22 million in winnings. And, oh yes, he turned 22 years old during that season. The world seemed in the palm of his hands, and the records of Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and others at the top of the game seemed to be a legitimate target. Then came the 2015-16 season. Spieth won twice, but his season was most…

A drive down Interstate 35 south from downtown Oklahoma City eventually leads to Norman, home of one of college football’s powerhouses. But the “power house” along that highway comes as you cross into the north sides of Norman from the suburban city of Moore. A literal mansion, rising up from the plains to the west side of the interstate, has for years housed the family of one Bob Stoops, head coach of that aforementioned powerhouse, the University of Oklahoma. That is until June 7, when Stoops announced he was retiring after 18 seasons and 190 wins at the Sooner helm.…
